I came up with this awesome fruit smoothie recipe out of sheer necessity. If I had to make a list of all of the important tasks that take place weekday mornings between the hours of 5:30 a.m. and 9 a.m., the single most important task each day would have to be breakfast. It also used to be the hardest task of the day! We are all very different beings with very different ideas of what an ideal breakfast is. Until a few months ago, we all ate different things each day - which made my job in the morning hard and our grocery store trips expensive.
Finally, this fruit smoothie recipe is a breakfast that the whole family can get behind!
The one and ONLY breakfast food that we can all get behind on a daily basis is smoothies! Some weeks we go for green smoothies, others a berrylicious protein smoothie like this one, and some weeks we indulge with decadent Chunky Monkey Smoothies, but one thing always remains the same - every Sunday afternoon I create a smoothie system for the week. I wash and prep our fruits and veggies, I freeze bananas and berries, I mix up my protein packed super seed blend, and I gather everything into one central location where it is easy to find. It makes our morning smoothie routine run smooth and I am in and out of the kitchen in a flash!
Up until recently I used all sorts of mismatched jars and even sometimes resorted to plastic bags to sort our weekly smoothie ingredients. {Can you feel me cringe as I type that?!} However, I have always taken issue with using a lot of plastic and try to avoid it whenever possible. I'm sure I don't have to tell you all of the reasons why I don't like to use plastic, but in case you wanted to know more you should read this article by my friends at Mighty Nest, 7 Reasons Your Real Food Deserves Real Containers.
So, seeing as how my morning smoothie system needed a little plastic purge I contacted the wonderful people at Mighty Nest for help! They were so great to work with and literally thought of everything I could possibly ever need for my smoothie system. Just look at all of the wonderful things that Mighty Nest came up with that now make my smoothie ritual safer, more eco-friendly, and better organized. Did I mention my morning routine is prettier too?
Now about this berrylicious protein smoothie! This smoothie is crazy good. It combines homemade cashew milk, lots of luscious berries, vanilla, and my protein packed super seed blend. Our little fruit bandit says this smoothie is magical and I tend to agree with him.
