For the last few weeks I have been sharing our trip to Seale, Al to visit Butch Anthony's Museums and Doo-Nanny Festival. It really was a once in a lifetime experience that I am glad we were able to fit in before our move. The Doo-Nanny Outsider Folk Art Festival began in 1996 as a roadside folk art show, but has grown so much in popularity over the years that it is now held on Butch Anthony's picturesque 80-acre farm. There is a little of everything here, and we were so mesmerized by it all that I still haven't been able to wrap my head around the whole experience. The festival is packed full of shanty style booths filled with talented artists, quirky magicians, and even a "lo-fi" film festival. We have so many pictures from our day there that I have decided to split the Doo-Nanny post into two separate Sunday Snapshot posts.
When we were driving back to Atlanta after the Doo-Nanny we kept talking about all of the amazing things that we saw, collectively we agreed that the decorated cars, buses, and boats were the most intriguing for us. Not only do the attendees of the Doo-Nanny dress up themselves, with everything from body paint to dinosaurs mounted on cowboy hats, but they decorate their vehicles as well. I am so glad that I saw these vehicles while they were parked and I was walking, because I may have wrecked trying to check them out as I passed them on the interstate.
