Ok, let's start this post by saying that I am NOT a doctor, nor a nutritionist. All I know is what my life experiences have taught me, and in the last few years I have seen first-hand the healing power of whole foods and the changes that can happen in the body when you eliminate processed foods and gluten. As most of you know already, almost 3 years ago our son was born sick and after over a year of searching for answers we found that all of his health problems could be traced back to gluten. Naturally seeing the major shift in my entire family's health when we eliminated gluten and processed foods from our diets opened my eyes completely to the healing capabilities of an immune boosting juice shot like this one.

When I started getting sick over the Christmas holidays I immediately ran to the doctor's office to try and quickly eliminate whatever nasty little bug I had. I was really hoping for a quick fix from the doc, after all it was Christmas and what mom has time to be sick?! I was elated to hear that I wasn't contagious and seriously annoyed to hear that I had some type of nasty respiratory viral infection that couldn't be helped at all...it had to simply run its course and I had to be patient.

My doctor suggested all sorts of over the counter medications to control my symptoms and lots of rest. Initially I caved and loaded my body down with over the counter pain killers and products boasting the ability to make all of the obnoxious stuffiness, coughing, and wheezing  go away. After day 2 of those meds I felt even worse...my body was yelling a resounding NO! I felt shaky, clammy, and like I was in a fog. Everything hurt and all of those meds were making me feel even worse.  I also had an insane craving for juice, lots and lots of juice! Which prompted a quick trip to my favorite juice bar.

As I stood at the counter assuring everyone that I wasn't contagious, I asked for advice. What should I drink? What would make me feel better? What would flush my system? So many questions...one resounding answer.."The Face Melter".  My first reaction was, "Why on earth would I purposely put something in my body with a name like 'face melter'?"  The juicing aficionados assured me that the name was far worse than the shot itself, although they were honest and said it didn't taste so great.

This immune boosting shot was packed with fresh organic ginger juice, organic lemon, cayenne pepper, and oil of oregano. All of these ingredients are rich in vitamins and minerals and have been known to have the ability to help heal the body.  So, I decided I would give it a go... I was pretty confident that my face wouldn't actually melt off and I can tolerate a little heat from the cayenne and ginger. So, I ordered my shot along with a vegan chocolate shake just in case I needed something cold and delicious to stop the melting of my face.

She juiced, I watched...she sprinkled cayenne, I watched...she strategically placed droplets of oil on top, I watched. They served, I took the shot, I made a horrible face, and she smiled. I left to head back home with the sensation of my lips and throat slightly buzzing from the heat of the ginger and cayenne. Along with a gentle warming sensation in my throat and belly, it was actually kind of nice. I also had a jolt of energy, I wasn't sure if that was adrenaline or the shot, but I liked it! So, I decided that I would attempt making the shots in my juicer at home, and take them a few times a day for the next few days instead of all of those nasty OTC meds. I cannot even begin to explain how much better I felt after a few days of taking the shots. I could breathe, my coughing fits were diminishing, and I had loads of energy to wrap presents, bake cookies, and to celebrate the holiday!

I couldn't wait to share these shots with you here! Again, they don't taste great and I highly suggest chewing on a slice of apple immediately after taking your shot. Todd has been taking these shots too, although he leaves off the cayenne because he just doesn't like the flavor. I took 3 one-ounce shots a day for 3 days then I cut back to one shot a day for the next 3 days. I made myself rest when I felt that I needed it and drank lots and lots of water to help flush my system. I am so happy to feel like I am finally back to normal and although I feel great I plan on taking one or two of these shots each week, just to keep me balanced.

Do you take any natural supplements or juice regularly for the health benefits? I'd love to hear all about it!

Just discovered your blog looking for gluten-free baked Alaska. Love discovering new gluten-free blogs! Thanks! If you haven't heard of Lindsey Bentley's blog... you'll love it. She has wonderful natural health tips and recipes. Your immune boosting shot reminded me of her remedy called "terrible tonic": http://wp.me/p2Hqno-50 via @wordpressdotcom. Something to add to your immune building protocol 🙂
